Donating the Model Context Protocol and Establishing the Agentic AI Foundation

Anthropic announced on December 9, 2025, that it is donating the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to the Linux Foundation's newly established Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). The Linux Foundation and AAIF

The Linux Foundation is a non-profit stewarding critical open-source projects including Linux Kernel, Kubernetes, Node.js, and PyTorch. The organization has demonstrated expertise in "facilitating open collaboration and maintaining vendor neutrality."

The Agentic AI Foundation operates as a directed fund under the Linux Foundation, co-founded by Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI, with support from Google, Microsoft, AWS, Cloudflare, and Bloomberg. The Donation
